Meet Eileen

Eileen Talamante is both a registered nurse and lawyer in Virginia with over 25 years of combined nursing and legal experience. Eileen is the founder of Talamante Law, a law firm exclusively dedicated to representing healthcare professionals from all over Virginia in licensing and discipline matters before the Board of Nursing and the Board of Medicine, as well as other healthcare licensees before their respective licensing boards.

Eileen received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin in 1988 and worked her way through law school as a critical care nurse, earning her law degree with honors from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1990. Eileen has been elected to and served in leadership positions at both the state and national level, including the Lewis F. Powell, Jr. American Inn of Court, Richmond Chapter, as President from 2017 - 2019, and with The American Association of Nurse Attorneys as a Board member from 2017 - 2021, and as President Elect in 2021.

Eileen consistently receives high praise from both her clients and legal peers for her outstanding advocacy on behalf of Virginia’s nurses and other healthcare professionals. She was named as a Platinum Client Champion with Martindale Hubbell for 2024, and was selected by her peers to Best Lawyers in America for Healthcare in both 2023 and 2024. Eileen was also named to the 2023 class of Influential Women in the Law by Virginia Lawyers Weekly. In December of 2020, Eileen received the Virginia Nurses Foundation's “2020 Year of the Nurse Award” in recognition of her advocacy on behalf of Virginia’s nurses for over a decade and during the COVID pandemic. Also in 2020, Eileen was recognized on the national level when she was chosen as a recipient of the "2020 Outstanding Advocate Award" by The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA).

While representing a heavy load of nurse clients amidst the disruption of the early days of the COVID pandemic, Eileen also wrote an article, “2020 is Designated as The Year of the Nurse... WOW, is it Ever...”. The article expressed her belief that nurses will become stronger, more empowered, and more resilient when faced with the unprecedented challenges brought about by the pandemic, and outlined multiple ways for nurses to practice self-care and protect their mental health and nursing license. Her article received high reviews and was picked for publishing in May of 2020 in both of the primary medical/legal publications in Virginia: Virginia Lawyers Weekly and the Virginia Medical Law Report.

The vast majority of the communications and interactions Eileen has with her healthcare clients is done virtually, by email or by phone, which allows Eileen to represent nurses and other healthcare professionals statewide from all over Virginia. For the occasional times that in-person meetings are needed with clients for hearing preparations or attending hearings, Eileen meets with clients by appointment at her office for appointments located at 3900 Westerre Parkway, Suite 300, Richmond, VA 23233, which is conveniently located less than a mile from the Virginia Department of Health and the various licensing Boards where hearings take place.

Eileen brings a unique understanding and perspective regarding the myriad of difficult issues Virginia’s nurses, physicians, and other healthcare providers face in today's complex, highly regulated, and increasingly understaffed and unsafe healthcare environment. She is passionate about advocating on behalf of fellow nurses and other healthcare providers.
